Approximately 3 years ago I started researching the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed. All I knew was that I wanted something that was relatively low maintenance and didn't want a breed that required trimming as I had developed back problems. I had owned a Shih Tzu & a Lhasa Apso and knew of the maintenance required for their upkeep but most importantly I wanted the ultimate lap dog hence A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel went to the top of my list.
In August 2007 I brought Daisy into our home; a beautiful Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. All of my life I've dreamed of breeding so my search for a stud dog and a companion for Daisy began. In August 2008 I brought Sir Edsel (Tri Color) the man of the house into our home. I was amazed to see that the personality you read about Cavaliers is so true. These wonderful dogs were welcomed into our home by their four legged big sister, Chocolate Labrador, Macy. You could always find the three of them snuggled together on their bed. Now I was hooked on the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed and so my search continued for another Cavalier. I wanted something different or unique and then found my Lady Layla at Charmed Onz Cavaliers.
We drove 3 ½ hours to pick up our third Cavalier – Lady Layla Mae (Tri Color) and to meet Jacki and Linda and their Cavaliers. What a joy it was!
After connecting with these breeders (Charmed Onz Cavaliers) we formed an instant connection. Every question I had these ladies answered them with no hesitation whatsoever and they are always there to answer any questions you may have. At this point, they had only seen pictures of Edsel and thought him to be a handsome man and were interested in the prospect of him as being a stud for some of their girls. Finally, my dream was starting to take form. So now all we needed was one of their girls to come into season. At last the plans were set in place and I made the 3 1/2 hour trip back to Ohio with Edsel & Layla. (Of course they would want to see how Lady Layla was doing). Just prior to this visit they had a litter of puppies that I couldn't wait to see in person. I had picked out the pup of the litter in my opinion which was Lady Farrah. During my visit with Jacki & Linda I couldn't keep this little girl out of my arms.
As a young child, like most I suppose the prospect of Santa bringing a puppy for Christmas would have been the ultimate gift. Well Jacki & Linda have fulfilled that gift with little Miss Farrah, a beautiful Blenheim Cavalier, who is to be a joint venture between Gillam Cavaliers and Charmed Onz Cavaliers. It may seem hard to believe if you've never had dogs, especially Cavaliers but she instantly became a member of the family. The other dogs have taken her in as if she were always a part of our family. All of our dogs live in our home and most of them sleep in bed with me every night.
The program that Charmed Onz Cavaliers have is exactly what I was looking for and the instant connection we had has now turned into a wonderful friendship that you would think would have taken years to acquire and we both agree that this joint venture was meant to be.
We hope to be able to provide families that are after a wonderful family dog – Cavalier King Charles Spaniel – with many happy years of joy as the Cavalier was breed to love and that is exactly what they do tenfold.
Even though I am still relatively new to the breed I have done my homework and am always asking Jacki who has over 35+ years of experience with the breed. We both agree that we only breed AKC Cavaliers and our joint program will assist anyone wishing to get a perfect Cavalier without the massive cost that some breeders are charging.
Both Charmed Onz Cavaliers and Gillam Cavaliers will be available to answer any questions 24/7 and we will provide a service that if there is a puppy you like at Charmed Onz we will personally go and pick it up for you and if there is one at Gillam; Charmed Onz will personally go and pick it up for you at a reasonable price.
We are only breeding the Parti Colors, Tri Color and Blenheim, as we feel it necessary to keep within those colors so as to not have miss-markings as you often see when people breed the solid colors – Black and Tan, Ruby with a Parti Color.
As with Jacki and Linda, we have nothing to hide hence their pedigrees are available online for all to see. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact either Gillam Cavaliers or Charmed Onz Cavaliers and we are only too happy to answer all your questions honestly.
